Everyone who works for Earthrace Conservation is a volunteer. No-one receives a salary, and we don't have an expensive office to run (we use Skype - a lot!).

So we can promise you that all donations go directly towards enabling us to continue with our missions and campaigns to preserve and protect oceans and marine life around the world.

Every pound, yen, dollar, Euro or króna that we receive will be put to good use.

How we use donations

We make sure that our chapters around the world can produce information packs, leaflets and posters whether to increase awareness of the seal harvest in Namibia, the grinds in the Faroe Islands, sea turtle hunting in Trinidad or any of the other issues that we fight against.

We do what we do for future generations, and we are determined to do what it takes to make sure that all young people understand the significance of our oceans and marine life so that they will carry on what we started.

We want to reach more young people through our education plans and through our Junior Activists Club. Producing educational resources that are relevant to many different ages groups and professional enough to be used extensively by educators around the world is not cheap.

Some things are much more expensive than others - a new boat for example (unless you've got a spare million or ten just hanging around). We do plan on having a new 'Earthrace' at some stage in the future though and you can help fund it. With our own ship, we can get out on the oceans and right into the middle of the action, wherever it is. In the meantime, we need donations to fund hiring suitable vessels we can use in our missions.

Money raised from people like you will enable us to make sure that our mission teams are full equipped with everything they need to make sure they succeed in their objectives (and return home in one piece).

We need things like hi def and other types of cameras for stills and film so that we can document atrocities as they happen; we need the right kind of clothing for whatever the weather or terrain might throw at us; and communications tools so that our teams can share what they're doing with each other - and with you.

There are conferences and events around the world where we think we can make a difference by speaking out. We'd like to have had representation at the annual meeting of the International Whaling Commission for example - but we couldn't afford it this year. Next year? We certainly hope so with your help.

We don't travel first class, and all our team (including Pete) tend to sleep on other people's floors when away from home, so there are no expensive hotel bills to cover. Where we do need funds is for getting Pete and others to things like speaking engagements by plane, train, or automobile, often at the request of other non profit groups. We don't see why they should have to use their funds and it would be nice to be able to pay our own way.

We try and make sure we make your donations work hard so wherever we can, we find companies and individuals who are prepared to either donate goods and services, or let us have them at substantial discounts. It makes the dollars go much further (and is pretty much how we got our original Earthrace boat the whole way around the world - people's generosity never failed to render us speechless - it still does!).
